My abstract and representational work is a blend of the European influences of my early childhood, combined with the colors, passion and folklore of Latin America. The animal form and the human figure have always fascinated me.
In my abstract work, I choose a color and begin with a random gesture on the canvas. I follow its lead, and with each new color, shapes and patterns begin to emerge, themes appear. I follow no plan, yet eventually the diverse elements integrate and converge, just as life does.
My portraits capture moods and emotions, and focus on the intrinsic expressions particular to my subjects and their interrelationships.
I am also fascinated by the backgrounds, where the richness of fabrics, pleats, and other textures add color and atmosphere.
I paint in oils, acrylics, and mixed media.
